I will be representing the Tony Elumelu Foundation at 2 different events in India this week. The first one is the World CSR Summit, which is taking place in Mumbai on 18th February, and the other is the Global Action on Poverty forum from 20th – 23rd February 2016. The first event is a one-day conference on best practices of CSR from around the world and sharing on how corporate business, governments, policy makers are implementing CSR. The day ends with an award ceremony and i have been nominated! I will be participating on a panel where I will be speaking about my passion, which is the Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Programme, which is one of the biggest examples of CSR, an incredible example of made-in-Africa for Africa by an African – a transformative entrepreneurship programme.
I think there will be a huge amount of opportunity for exploring collaborations with the corporates and businesses that will be present at this conference. Large Indian businesses will be there to discuss best corporate practices for their company and so I will be looking to share the Tony Elumelu entrepreneurship story with great audiences in India.
Secondly, it will be to explore opportunities with other nonprofit organizations like ours, particularly those who see entrepreneurship as a driver for growth and really see investing in young people in India, like on the African continent. In India, the government has launched Startup India but it recognizes that it needs to change the mindset of the younger generation to be job creators and not job seekers. So I think it’s a great place to share the Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Programme model that we’ve started here that can be replicated anywhere in India.
